June LINKS: Designing for Inclusive Play + Happy Hour

Please join us for a happy hour + CEU event. Jordan Chapman with Kompan will be hosting Dr. Suzanne Quinn for the educational presentation. Dr. Quinn, PhD is the manager of KOMPAN Play Institute and has over 20 years’ experience as an educator, early years practitioner, teacher educator, and researcher. A universal approach to designing innovative outdoor play environments that are relevant for all abilities and facilitate high-use will be presented through examples, concepts, and research. Identify the elements of playground design that accommodate “play for all” and present challenges and opportunities for children of all abilities. Review current world discussions and gain a better understanding of the needs of children with disabilities including development, health, and social inclusion.

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn to thoughtfully respond to current accessibility needs to ensure a relevant play space for all children.
2. Gain a global perspective on inclusive play vs. ADA to inspire design that promotes universal play for spaces.
3. Understand the relationship between inclusive play and child social and health development.

Course will provide 1.0 continuing education credits.
