September LINKS: Dry-Cast Concrete Fabrication Tour
Host + Presenter: Nathan Jones + Wade Medlar, Keystone Hardscapes
Please join us for a lunch presentation and dry-cast concrete fabrication facility tour led and taught by the general manager of the business unit. An instructor structured visual and lectured outing to help design professionals understand the capabilities and limitations of dry cast concrete manufacturing. Educational topics covered are raw material sourcing, concrete mix design components, the manufacturing operational processes, quality control / quality assurance and inventory principles.
This tour is limited to the first 20 registered attendees. Steel toed shoes are required for the tour – no open toed shoes or tennis shoes are not allowed. Please bring your own hard hat and safety glasses if available.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize how distinctly different raw materials are stockpiled, stored and moved to the production process. Understand the value of separate raw materials meeting specification to meet the called for concrete mix design requirements. Learn how these materials are combined and managed to meet the end product’s properties and appearance.
- Discover the components of a dry cast concrete mix design and how the different materials impact quality and performance. Discussion on how a dry cast mix is created and what are the functions of the overall mix design recipe. Observe the movement of raw materials into finished product.
- See the manufacturing process in real time how a dry cast mix is created, transported & formed into a concrete paver and wall products. Understand the phases of production and how each phase integrates sequentially to the next phase. Learn how quality standards are measured and maintained during the manufacture thru put of the product.
- Encounter how dry cast product curing, secondary processing, and packaging is coordinated to maximize efficiency. Ascertain the processes of architectural finishes – coloration, splitting and tumbling. Comprehend the impacts of inventory management, shipping logistics and end delivery of manufactured product.
